CAKE Kalk Wins 2019 German Design Award
The Swedish electric motorcycle brand is honored to receive the Motorcycle Design Award from the German Design Council.
CAKE, the Swedish manufacturer of lightweight electric off-road performance motorcycles, is honored to win the Motorcycle category of the German Design Council’s 2019 German Design Award. This is the brand’s ninth winning award overall since launch this past January. The annual awards celebrate projects that truly represent pioneering contributions to the German and international design landscape, and as part of the awards, CAKE’s first model, the Kalk, will be on display at the Ambiente Fair from February 8 - 12.
“To be one of the few winners of the 2019 German Design Award is a wonderful feeling, especially in the Motorcycle category,” says Stefan Ytterborn, founder and CEO of CAKE. “Promoting off-road performance with an electric vs a combustion drivetrain, means starting from scratch. And it demands a new context, build, components, geometry and typology. The fact that our work has been acknowledged is extremely flattering.”
The German Design Council, the expert for brand and design in Germany, bestows the German Design Award. Commissioned by the highest authority to represent new developments in the German design industry, the German Design Award directly contributes to the overall commercial success. Prizes are only awarded to projects that truly represent pioneering contributions to the German and international design landscape. Established on the initiative of the German Bundestag (the lower house of German parliament) as a foundation in 1953, it supports the industry in all matters consistently aimed at generating an added brand value through design.
Built with a purpose to inspire people to contribute to speeding up the journey towards a zero emission society by combining excitement and responsibility, the all-electric high-performance off-road motorbike brand is designed for exploration and discovery. First launched this past January at the Outdoor Retailer Show in Denver, the first model - the Kalk - was recognized as “Best in Show” by several outdoor industry publications and has received numerous accolades since. With a focus on design, performance and innovation, every single component of the Kalk had to be custom built, resulting in numerous patents pending. The CAKE Kalk proves electric vehicles can still be aesthetically pleasing while being eco-friendly.
