CAKE awarded prestigious gold at 2022 iF Design Awards

The electric anti-poaching motorcycle CAKE Kalk AP recognized as instrumental in helping park rangers protect wildlife more efficiently – receiving the iF Gold Design Award 2022. Urban commuter Makka voted iF Design Award 2022 winner.

Cake the Swedish maker of premium lightweight, electric motorcycles, today proudly announced that they’ve been selected for two honorable awards at this year’s iF Design Awards.

The lauded electric off-roader CAKE Kalk AP was awarded gold, scoring an impressive 500 out of 500 by an unanimous jury, in the product category of this year’s iF Design Awards. Additionally, the sleek urban commuter Makka was also selected to receive a iF Design Award of its own. The influential, global design competition traces its roots back to 1953, the latest edition attracting more than 10,000 submissions from 60 countries.

On the CAKE Kalk AP, the jury stated:

“With this design, CAKE has successfully married sustainability and practicality. This off-road bike helps park rangers more effectively protect wildlife, while indirectly safeguarding the wider environment on which the wildlife depends. Congratulations to the CAKE team for creating a product that is destined to stand the test of time.”

CAKE Founder and CEO, Stefan Ytterborn, commented:

“This is one proud day for our development team. The Kalk platform was our inroads to the two-wheeled industry, literally turning every preconceived notion of what an electric motorcycle was upside down. The modified Kalk AP has continued this legacy, showing how our technology can make a difference and save animal lives on the African continent, a perfect example of purpose and sustainability. With the Makka we offer people a beautiful, clean and sustainable way to commute and explore. Two different vehicles, one shared ambition to excite towards a cleaner future. Thank you iF Design Awards for recognizing our hard work.”

Design with a purpose
The electric anti-poaching motorcycle CAKE Kalk AP is based on the standard Kalk and developed in close collaboration with park rangers of the South African Wildlife College (SAWC). Adapted to meet the demanding, varying terrain available on the continent, the Kalk AP is 100% solar powered through a joint effort with Goal Zero and purposely designed to support rangers fighting illegal hunting practices.

The CAKE Makka was introduced in late 2021, with the initial production run immediately selling out. A smart electric moped with category-leading performance, it aims to offer all commuters and urban explorers a convenient configuration platform, in a timeless design.
